Catherine Vrchota Najmajstr, the great-grandmother of Sue and I, was born in Bohemia and came to the US as a young girl. She was a very talented lady who is loved and talked about to this day in South Dakota, where she homesteaded with her husband. We like to think she dreamed of this day where we can share the bit of talent we inherited from her with a large audience.Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865653889200187456noreply@blogger.comBlogger91125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3426840018627100203.post-2694998317959451852014-04-11T01:01:00.001-04:002014-04-11T01:01:25.656-04:00April Art Bead Scene Challenge<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This month I used beads designed by Ema K of Ema K Designs http://www.emakdesigns.com/blog.html </div>

I started making a new design of jewelry. I will show how in a post coming up. It has been fun and I am still experimenting with it. The green leaf is the first one I made. I wore the green one at a very formal meeting and have worn it in the most casual of situations. Both are on sale now on my etsy site.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The art beads (the circle beads and the round purple striped focal bead) were all made by Jenifer Heynen of Jangles. They really seemed to go with the colors of the inspiration painting. </div>

I also used some dyed agates that went with the painting and also the art beads. I strung all of them on strong red thread and used red glass seed beads as spacers, I felt the large claw clasp would add weight to allow the bracelet to hang correctly. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Over the last few months I have been busy working on some Petoskey Stone Pendants. I picked up a quart jar of rough stones. Since then, I have been polishing and wrapping them. Some, like the rounded cabochon stone to the left, I wrapped with square wire in a cage. The stone below is a good way to wrap an uneven stone.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzPoK_Ib5oj-oZL-RkjaIesrGmDnceBw6Gq8iBJHbbqCNIpyzm_qET0dH4rBsbpHXPAjPnmQm62nV2zQ0W4whZLkKP3SWx_ywf23u6hM79HwLy31hq64d9IX5IS6kUP-Y85CWkt8T57AkS/s1600/pet+st+bigl+rocks+(1+of+1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; display: inline !important; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzPoK_Ib5oj-oZL-RkjaIesrGmDnceBw6Gq8iBJHbbqCNIpyzm_qET0dH4rBsbpHXPAjPnmQm62nV2zQ0W4whZLkKP3SWx_ywf23u6hM79HwLy31hq64d9IX5IS6kUP-Y85CWkt8T57AkS/s320/pet+st+bigl+rocks+(1+of+1).jpg" width="320" /></a>Petoskey Stones are a popular stone here in Northern Michigan. Tourists especially love them, but they are near and dear to the hearts of us locals too. They are actually fossils. They are usually found along the local beaches. When seen in their unpolished state, Petoskey Stones are a light gray rock that is easily passed up. It is only when wet or polished that the unique pattern is visible. Many who hunt them bring along a bucket of water to dip them in to check to see what that stone looks like.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsPXdvhKDIKe18arh5BX7agvjkRkjwD6TK4gdAOV39CqMSFeRedlEDiBQWR6S_o8I6ZH8UqAhxh5G5ar5gsrZw8J1BJl4d7ARVny2TCD2GRlDfOYVqNlaKIG9x12r3WRQkXrmRyHPdV72B/s1600/pet+st+swirl+rocks+%25281+of+1%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsPXdvhKDIKe18arh5BX7agvjkRkjwD6TK4gdAOV39CqMSFeRedlEDiBQWR6S_o8I6ZH8UqAhxh5G5ar5gsrZw8J1BJl4d7ARVny2TCD2GRlDfOYVqNlaKIG9x12r3WRQkXrmRyHPdV72B/s320/pet+st+swirl+rocks+%25281+of+1%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
They are polished with sandpaper. Most dealers and jewelers have a polishing machine that does the job quickly and efficiently. I, on the other hand, polish by hand using three different grains of sandpaper. I start with #60 to get the stone basically smooth. Then #220 to really get the pits, bumps and other flaws out. I end with #600 to fine tune and smooth the stone perfectly.While polishing I have a bowl of water available as it is important to keep the stone and sandpaper wet. Between each type of paper I wash the stone off thoroughly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1AHHGcXur7yKtGA7JUj2r0II7ZXCZRt1rFeWW4KxCoR4F68NW2lZkE-PzVncuZU2IO9r6H2yafvRHJBuhEBWEQZFFzfnjU3cpo-buzWHTPwxHjCfJsMDtrJpgUKPQKtWTj6cAIiq0R9WQ/s1600/pet+st+heart+(1+of+2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1AHHGcXur7yKtGA7JUj2r0II7ZXCZRt1rFeWW4KxCoR4F68NW2lZkE-PzVncuZU2IO9r6H2yafvRHJBuhEBWEQZFFzfnjU3cpo-buzWHTPwxHjCfJsMDtrJpgUKPQKtWTj6cAIiq0R9WQ/s320/pet+st+heart+(1+of+2).jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I often think the stone is done, it will look beautiful<br />
while wet. Then when it dries, I will see all the scratches and other flaws that I missed. So I keep wetting it and working on it more. Eventually, when I get the stone the way I want it to be, I use a special polish for stones such as this. Actually, if you get the stone the way you want it, you don't need any polish, but I like the extra sparkle. To finish, I use a wool cloth or a piece of old carpet the finish the job. Then I wash the stone well. Once it dries, it is ready to wrap. The stone above is a cage design.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL701vEJwrVMyhtpB3gf-YAS8oUONCHiSGsW2gg8cSL7n5fLROT2HFjXkmMUkEgYGeZso1OpFWC7IXKcPZxVmaW9Pk3Ut6RAJJALCRyVmrpnMydAuU2hPiJ0n4-Xd4cYZjLdS_DZV89QXH/s1600/pet+st+round+rocks+(1+of+1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL701vEJwrVMyhtpB3gf-YAS8oUONCHiSGsW2gg8cSL7n5fLROT2HFjXkmMUkEgYGeZso1OpFWC7IXKcPZxVmaW9Pk3Ut6RAJJALCRyVmrpnMydAuU2hPiJ0n4-Xd4cYZjLdS_DZV89QXH/s320/pet+st+round+rocks+(1+of+1).jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The flat heart shaped stone above has a special wrap for that type of stone. Later I will teach how to make these wraps. The stone to the left has a cute little four bar cage holding it in, topped with a little agate bead.<br />
<br />
I am not sure yet whether to sell these as plain pendants or incorporate them into necklaces. My love of putting together beads will likely lead to them being part of necklaces.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
It has been several months since I submitted anything to the Art Bead Scene monthly challenge. I always have so much fun doing it and it stretches me as a designer.<br />
<br />
This month the inspiration art is Portrait of Olga in the Armchair by Pablo Picasso. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T4wVJIb3GOQ/UdI_Va17J7I/AAAAAAAACDU/x9gBE4CHSMk/s1600/Portrait+of+Olga.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T4wVJIb3GOQ/UdI_Va17J7I/AAAAAAAACDU/x9gBE4CHSMk/s320/Portrait+of+Olga.jpg" width="228" /></a></div>
<br />
As always, an art bead needs to be part of the piece. <span style="background-color: black;"> <span style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24.578125px; text-align: center;">An art bead is a bead, charm, button or finding made by an independent artist. Art beads are the vision and handiwork of an individual artist.</span></span> Many people make their own beads for the contest, alas, I do not have that skill yet. But many other designers sell their beads, so I am still able to participate.<br />
<br />
I love the colors in this painting. I especially love the flowers in the chair and Olga's expression. I have fun trying to decide what she is thinking and somehow feel a kinship with that look.<br />
<br />

I used used four beads from one of my favorite jewelry artist: Heather Powers from Humblebeads. Here is Heather's website:<br />
<a href="http://www.humblebeads.com/">http://www.humblebeads.com/</a><br />
<br />
She has awesome beads that I find very attractive. These beads are her branch-mix disc beads in teal. I love the colors and the peaceful feeling I get when I look at them. It goes along with the feeling from the painting. And the colors are perfect. The flowers in the chair of the painting inspired me to make dangles of some vintage flower beads that I have. I love<br />
these beads but have a hard time finding a way<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfeVyXT9dLfZGulLMXWFlvxfOuiuwFSgHrNaG6ScfIWGPUFYk6mc3Y2Y9ZokZAf8p7Y4W-M9SrC7q40bNrqnTorH49rJE4P11W9TbI7Y_74dTLhZc3TNSfmRgWDeFFlpsf5JzjBhm7_iBl/s1600/pillar+7-13+(1+of+1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfeVyXT9dLfZGulLMXWFlvxfOuiuwFSgHrNaG6ScfIWGPUFYk6mc3Y2Y9ZokZAf8p7Y4W-M9SrC7q40bNrqnTorH49rJE4P11W9TbI7Y_74dTLhZc3TNSfmRgWDeFFlpsf5JzjBhm7_iBl/s320/pillar+7-13+(1+of+1).jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
to use them. They were perfect for this project. I picked out a matching swarovski crystal to fit into the center of each flowers. Then I took a green glass leaf bead and made a dangle to go with each flower. For a focal bead, I used a bead that was made by Sherry, a local artist. I felt it brought the colors together well. On either side of that bead I used an aqua-terra jasper bad. Then around the back I used yellow jade beads inspired by the background of the painting. Their translucence brings to mind Olga's skin.<br />
<br />
This was fun to make and a creation that stretches me and that I love.<br />

Art and Soul Gallery on Front Street! <a href="http://www.artandsoultc.com/">http://www.artandsoultc.com/</a> I have admired this shop for many years and dreamed of the day that perhaps my jewelry would be worthy of sitting next to the wonderous pieces that I saw. It is very exciting to me! It still feels like a dream!Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865653889200187456noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3426840018627100203.post-10727283950127103792013-06-24T18:18:00.001-04:002013-06-24T18:18:15.038-04:00Bead Hoarders Blog HopLori Anderson is again having one of her fun blog hops. This one is for bead hoarders. You know those beads you love but just can't get yourself to use for whatever reason? Once you sign up- here is the link--<a href="http://tinyurl.com/mkup7ea">Bead Hoarders Blog Hop</a> Then make your piece and on the appointed day which she calls "the big reveal" you put up pictures of it on your blog along with a story. Then Lori makes it so you can go through all of the participating blogs easily to see what they have done. I am signed up, now have to go through those hoards of beads to figure out which ones to use.Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865653889200187456noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3426840018627100203.post-80134087618175795392013-06-23T19:00:00.001-04:002013-06-23T19:00:23.650-04:00I'm Back!I have had several life issues of late, including a serious illness (aplastic anemia). But I feel ready to start posting in my blog again. I have been designing jewelry, including the so called "rat-tail" bracelets made of leather and beads that are so popular now. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTajrYzL9eSgCs8DUWV6a2Enn-w_niKwp3QLA8bAkDWFNb0cN1_42JK8kGr9tMfMbxbVEIMjMEOuYctN2T74AB6J2RjefJ-gABDp1Tam6y6m89v29KN_GOwbZfOUjY1fRcxeRpyg5_W9G6/s1600/3+brac.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTajrYzL9eSgCs8DUWV6a2Enn-w_niKwp3QLA8bAkDWFNb0cN1_42JK8kGr9tMfMbxbVEIMjMEOuYctN2T74AB6J2RjefJ-gABDp1Tam6y6m89v29KN_GOwbZfOUjY1fRcxeRpyg5_W9G6/s320/3+brac.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have also been working with a stone I love: jasper<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJplQmnYjldoAMmShUiACXMj4BlrJ1GgMZ_CAwyZcDZBQyjgssGNiMBOxqR2RfmTZVNbRzvW8-nCtkITxdAPv6lLEAe5AdHTcaTLQ_0b_XwIvKWmxNpcHkRuQwuDcwl3yTGeFnH8fMgcgz/s1600/jasper+bike.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJplQmnYjldoAMmShUiACXMj4BlrJ1GgMZ_CAwyZcDZBQyjgssGNiMBOxqR2RfmTZVNbRzvW8-nCtkITxdAPv6lLEAe5AdHTcaTLQ_0b_XwIvKWmxNpcHkRuQwuDcwl3yTGeFnH8fMgcgz/s320/jasper+bike.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As well as Petoskey stones. I have been doing a lot of polishing. This one is paired with green moonstones:<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
And a little bit of one of my other fav's: amethyst, my birthstone. I paired this cool shell pendant I found with this amethyst necklace:<br />
<br />

Jessica loved pink and for Sue, doves and angels remind her of Jess. Se she has been saving things like this dove charm for the piece. She finally created it this week. The pictures do not do justice to the beauty and spirit of the piece. It is very special. As is Sue, who is heart of my heart.<br />

I am in CA right now doing a combination hanging out with son Dave while he is on a business trip and visiting my dear family. Sue and I spent yesterday creating a new pendant style. Here is Sue's pendant<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi71sJzPhnhtIoJwJg4kOkqLtosyEZsutAX4nkJ43VTOZzZ1Q3S5QdTTPJB0HLAZqYN70dYoJG-52fzO2dFRdJYIYpbXcTC55uqj_rBqi61o2IXMYPADBY86GlSBA667feRzxKui3YznmtK/s1600/Sue+pend+flowers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi71sJzPhnhtIoJwJg4kOkqLtosyEZsutAX4nkJ43VTOZzZ1Q3S5QdTTPJB0HLAZqYN70dYoJG-52fzO2dFRdJYIYpbXcTC55uqj_rBqi61o2IXMYPADBY86GlSBA667feRzxKui3YznmtK/s320/Sue+pend+flowers.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjaeWASuF2KWCpCpsHOmeGE8mDzaWpB-Oxvz19LLatnWhHlfu-kuzxEHpqdiao6kraOIbD_oGuendPHXnBLT4Ta48ksupafnWiPoIcV1bB1fyXRv27FKhVuV9q5T7beR80tc0mU_jOVs7G/s1600/sue+pend+side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="189" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjaeWASuF2KWCpCpsHOmeGE8mDzaWpB-Oxvz19LLatnWhHlfu-kuzxEHpqdiao6kraOIbD_oGuendPHXnBLT4Ta48ksupafnWiPoIcV1bB1fyXRv27FKhVuV9q5T7beR80tc0mU_jOVs7G/s320/sue+pend+side.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
We made a roundish frame using wrapping wire and beads, then for Sue's creation, she took a long string of loosely strung beads of various types and wrapped it around the frame, making a bale and wrapping the top with extra wire. It is so gorgeous and unique!<br />
<br />
I will make another post soon and show my similar pendant and tell how I made it.Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865653889200187456noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3426840018627100203.post-4206794982483507792012-09-08T15:38:00.005-04:002012-09-09T00:54:10.674-04:00Learn How to Wire Wrap a Bead Pendant<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is easy to make the pendant below. I will show you how!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLPSpqcooQdkEZVpxBUB5PX1XD7pbycfJLMiQsTkui4YwVkmiZdf39hmHkgdqvpSpc_gedIQL01u_5NwaOUgcpwVVbjJPLfVwhP0SkdBnjPQPskol2Vm52nLX74U8XE_jM5c8npGgXkUA4/s1600/finnished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLPSpqcooQdkEZVpxBUB5PX1XD7pbycfJLMiQsTkui4YwVkmiZdf39hmHkgdqvpSpc_gedIQL01u_5NwaOUgcpwVVbjJPLfVwhP0SkdBnjPQPskol2Vm52nLX74U8XE_jM5c8npGgXkUA4/s320/finnished.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
First you need the tools and supplies below. Chain nosed pliers, about 22 gauge jewlry wire, round nosed pliers, wire cutters and a bead.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCpBXHQj53hCeed0QlHS3jFIZbLRJ0Uxrsb7pyFcr5HSgEH9UTED__UVuwyKTpBlNHyOd3L39Gi3oncm8gioQsYfwqKOxXciWiEkiQgZZynJu8n3yfK_u24jeVjEeu9K1ORAtgtKMu_xv7/s1600/tools.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCpBXHQj53hCeed0QlHS3jFIZbLRJ0Uxrsb7pyFcr5HSgEH9UTED__UVuwyKTpBlNHyOd3L39Gi3oncm8gioQsYfwqKOxXciWiEkiQgZZynJu8n3yfK_u24jeVjEeu9K1ORAtgtKMu_xv7/s320/tools.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Start with any pretty bead. I chose Jasper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinc98fOd9Q8aNyF_3ppndOTf8M9aSXM4_kyZlhgJHcgQ3tO705tSocSOQf_eFDoGebqLUkgtJE9Kufn0tjRS55fyIkHw9HH75oDlNTzK68amXh0XBMZGVvom3cTt2b-2cUJwlAySQxslmu/s1600/stone.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="204" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinc98fOd9Q8aNyF_3ppndOTf8M9aSXM4_kyZlhgJHcgQ3tO705tSocSOQf_eFDoGebqLUkgtJE9Kufn0tjRS55fyIkHw9HH75oDlNTzK68amXh0XBMZGVvom3cTt2b-2cUJwlAySQxslmu/s320/stone.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then cut two wires, one about 7 inches and one about 16 inches for a bead that is 5/8 inches long. Make a loop in the longer wire about 1/3 from one of the ends. Wrap at least 8 times around the bottom of the loop </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvdokPt1MtWG_aDtPdmXXSVgXnDQkZHvlanOdivHEcL0AEAKIYbELWwPk5RemMRuSzTUkg6ikdk601NKbLydnamEYnvLri7_HWCrKm5cPoE04axP8dmnjIAVZxBVEZx-gSStGWIsSvTHQL/s1600/first+coil.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="146" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvdokPt1MtWG_aDtPdmXXSVgXnDQkZHvlanOdivHEcL0AEAKIYbELWwPk5RemMRuSzTUkg6ikdk601NKbLydnamEYnvLri7_HWCrKm5cPoE04axP8dmnjIAVZxBVEZx-gSStGWIsSvTHQL/s320/first+coil.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Then thread the bead onto the wire and make another loop above it. Be sure to leave enough room under the loop so you can make another 8 or so loops below it.<br />
.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE8eq-AQMyyjMhXrzjx_zkRWilXRpm-XUfQdaBWM_t8-JYJPbCdR8Acmnsr0p2u6uJ-JJGQ6JCL-i6Y8g1UeMcb8ilcNW1aUvore5MAYaduUSajD1UhxnEkwR5wmFQoa6bdRD-Q8mtzS1k/s1600/step+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE8eq-AQMyyjMhXrzjx_zkRWilXRpm-XUfQdaBWM_t8-JYJPbCdR8Acmnsr0p2u6uJ-JJGQ6JCL-i6Y8g1UeMcb8ilcNW1aUvore5MAYaduUSajD1UhxnEkwR5wmFQoa6bdRD-Q8mtzS1k/s320/step+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After you have made the new set of loops, wind the smaller wire around the top of the bead. Leave a small tail to hold onto. Curve the wire around the side of the bead. When you get to the bottom of the bead, wind the wire around the coil near the bead. You should now be able to trim the small "tail." </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjes1uEtH2mrewSBtlu3J25pKYdEsGkCnBad1BpcGLAGf7qPoGnvVdWCYjooqEJX2ROoH7SbTepPhblSonrdwEinrEtjLTF25Jmz47y084jyvFk5yax0zgMwkWC8C0LkulFW6QlOtzXTILH/s1600/step+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjes1uEtH2mrewSBtlu3J25pKYdEsGkCnBad1BpcGLAGf7qPoGnvVdWCYjooqEJX2ROoH7SbTepPhblSonrdwEinrEtjLTF25Jmz47y084jyvFk5yax0zgMwkWC8C0LkulFW6QlOtzXTILH/s320/step+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bring the wire up the other side and wind it around the top above the first wind, and continue on in the same manner until you reach the top of the coil.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWfc4lPEiqHJ4ma-4l9XOCjwfzpzWpCLDElMxBSmEL7tYKwQPtHOhy1jMJvSZNc5A3Fi9WZYnFNupJ1x4dZuGye1EGs0GohNVdy2bsbRwnmdUol5V3xycVx-ogFqc8yy72Vfjo6tXRiwth/s1600/step+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWfc4lPEiqHJ4ma-4l9XOCjwfzpzWpCLDElMxBSmEL7tYKwQPtHOhy1jMJvSZNc5A3Fi9WZYnFNupJ1x4dZuGye1EGs0GohNVdy2bsbRwnmdUol5V3xycVx-ogFqc8yy72Vfjo6tXRiwth/s320/step+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cut and tuck in the wire and now you have a neat herringbone wrapped bead</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We (Jasmine and I) went down for my son Dave's birthday and while we were there (as I said in an earlier post) we went to Burnie's Rock Shop. I spent a lot of time playing with my new items. Some of the end results are on this post and the one below. The pictures of the jewelry were mainly taken on my current campout in Traverse City. I swear I could live in my camper most of the year if it were possible!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHhHfe4PPSowwBbulB41jLEgDDrvGQw2p0VvJi3IdsRVW_2aaJWyt5qNv51bpRPTXZIg7KPHsw5gjRZew3E-Z2f7SmQupYYNem2CncMLikG45umQhZFjX-F7y_j5FOarL8bM8Vtlp3KBmX/s1600/pensant+with+tail.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHhHfe4PPSowwBbulB41jLEgDDrvGQw2p0VvJi3IdsRVW_2aaJWyt5qNv51bpRPTXZIg7KPHsw5gjRZew3E-Z2f7SmQupYYNem2CncMLikG45umQhZFjX-F7y_j5FOarL8bM8Vtlp3KBmX/s320/pensant+with+tail.jpg" width="213" /></a> Had lots of fun with a string of Red Creek Jasper I bought. I love this pendant. I was trying to straighten out the wires and bent the one that is third from the bottom. But it still looks nice. It was actually easy to make. I will show how to make a pendant like this in a new post.<br />

I am camping out at the campground near my home, Interlochen State Park again. Jasmine and I have another two week stay going on. Two weeks ago we were in Madison WI again and picked up some fun things from Burnie's rock shop. So ever since I have been "playing with my toys." Above is a view of my campsite. Duck Lake is in the background. Jasmine and I love being near the lake. We swim quite a bit, including midnight swims under the full ("blue") moon.<br />

Here is a view of Jasmine doing what she does most while I am working. She is a patient girl. I make sure we go on lots of walks and bike rides as well as swims to make up for it. <br />

I bought the beautiful agate ring above at Burnie's. I had kept looking at it not sure what to do until the other night. I still am not sure if I like what I did! I really want to bring out the beautiful yet subtle patterns in the stone<br />

This is a horrible picture of a beautiful amethyst ring. I think it looks like I took a purple Life Saver candy and decorated it. Posting it for the humor--will get a better pic posted soon.<br />

Have more pics to get online but wanted to make a start today!<br />
Happy Labor Day everyone!Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03865653889200187456noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3426840018627100203.post-1383570687716994512012-08-05T16:05:00.000-04:002012-08-05T16:17:53.988-04:00New NecklacesI have been making lots of lanyards to sell at work, but this week I also had an urge to make some necklaces. Here are some photos:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRu84FKmhcQxxN1Ml7avfcJ1H-9fiOibJgVlZ6Q3jjYPQLGJYa6AiA3341w639FrE7m9mlTA_a2xM5ewI-60idt99l_XysaL1qHfTicoOPc8wW18grAulokU66rqzcuVsOBNLZyQn_F_6r/s1600/coral+hang+pretty.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;">i<img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRu84FKmhcQxxN1Ml7avfcJ1H-9fiOibJgVlZ6Q3jjYPQLGJYa6AiA3341w639FrE7m9mlTA_a2xM5ewI-60idt99l_XysaL1qHfTicoOPc8wW18grAulokU66rqzcuVsOBNLZyQn_F_6r/s320/coral+hang+pretty.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
I have been picking up beads from Nawbin and Bead Harbor. I also have been saving the willow pendant. I bought it from Humblebeads. <br />
<br />
To make these, I used designs from my head. I did not want to think about what is popular. I just made necklaces I love. Many of them are made of semi-precious stones like lapis lazuli.<br />
<br />
Now back to lanyards--they are fun and they pay for this bead therapy of mine!<br />
